In November 2006, First Person created the First Person Live, Learn & Teach in Philadelphia Recruitment Video to help prospective teachers throughout the region hear what real Philadelphia students and teachers say about teaching in Philly. School District of Philadelphia

First Person is also pleased to partner with the School District of Philadelphia’s Student Success Centers. The Success Centers provide students with one-stop shopping in their high schools for programs and resources on college preparation, career exploration and social support. During Spring 2007, First Person will be conducting a screening and information-sharing series in the district’s eight Student Success Centers.

Teach for America

Teach For America is the national corps of outstanding recent college graduates of all academic majors who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools and become leaders in the effort to expand educational opportunity. Our mission is to enlist our nation’s most promising future leaders in the movement to eliminate educational inequality.

We are currently searching for individuals who have the leadership skills necessary to change the prospects of students growing up today and, ultimately, to effect fundamental changes in our society that enable this country to be a place of opportunity for all. We recruit individuals of all majors and career interests, including those who majored in education and want to teach in low-income communities, as well as those with no prior experience in education or working with kids.

The Philadelphia Education Fund

The Philadelphia Education Fund is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of public education for underserved youth throughout the Philadelphia region. For more than 21 years, the Ed Fund has been working in partnership with school districts, universities, non-profit organizations and businesses to initiate and implement innovative educational programs, improve teacher quality, engage the community in school reform and conduct research. The Ed Fund is one of the largest education funds affiliated with the national Public Education Network. Signature programs include: Small Schools Community Engagement Project, Middle Grades Matter, Student Teacher Pipeline to the Future, College Access Program, Philadelphia Scholars, Education First Compact, Philadelphia Math & Science Coalition, along with citywide research studies.

University Community Collaborative of Philadelphia

The mission of VOICES/UCCP is to empower youth to use their VOICE for positive social change. We aim to build the individual and collective power of youth through collaborative research, education, and relationship building with community partners, non-profit organizations, and government agencies. VOICES/UCCP has partnered with First Person to support the College Ambassadors Program through their Summer Academy.

The Education Law Center

elclogo.jpgThe Education Law Center is a statewide legal advocacy organization dedicated to achieving quality and equity in Pennsylvania�s public school system. Since it was founded in 1975, ELC has focused on the needs of low income children, children who are members of racial and ethnic minorities, English language learners, and children with disabilities. First Person is a proud supporter of The Pennsylvania Education Funding Reform Campaign, which ELC helps lead.
