Update from the Director

First Person is thrilled to announce that we will receive a $25,000 grant from the Children Can Shape the Future Foundation! This award will help make it possible for us to pilot our new outreach model. Over six weeks, First Person, Interactive Data Solutions, and the WHYY Learning Lab will be training a team of young people from North Philadelphia to become experts on the college support networks in their communities. By the end of this summer, they will have developed a vision statement for what the path to college should look like, assessed the quality of the supports currently available to them, and made recommendations for improvement. Pending a successful pilot this summer, we will look to replicate this model throughout Philadelphia in 2008. Please stay posted on our progress via the First Person website! bebopgrad_240.jpg "My big sis graduated from West Chester University on May 12th, 2007. I am sooo proud of her..." In his most recent blog post, Macho writes about his sister becoming the first in the family to graduate from college. He also reflects on his difficult first year at Community College of Philadelphia. Check out all of our student blogs to find out more about what First Person's students are doing a year after graduation. First Person Student Blogs

brittanyvictoriakashay_240.jpg "The six students in First Person may not know it, but they are great inspirations to people." So wrote Angel, a 6th grader at John Wister Elementary School in Philadelphia. Angel and her classmates at Wister did not stop there, however. They created their own video in response to First Person! Please take a minute to view their awesome work and to hear firsthand from other young people about the impact that First Person can have. First Person is pleased to partner directly with schools to bring peer-to-peer information and inspiration about making it to college. If your school would like to partner with First Person, please contact us. First Person is also pleased to support after-school documentary and digital media clubs for students.
